Harry Potter Pops I own and forgot to show you.

I was doing a little surfing on my own blog (it's fun when you have an interest in something and find out you'd already done some writing on it in the past) and came across my post on the collection of Harry Potter Funko Pops I own. I had almost completed the full set of the first wave (minus the exclusives, because there was no way I was getting three Harrys), and had only about four listed for the second. I realised that, since then, I've acquired a couple more from the second wave that I neglected to post about. That isn't because I didn't like these Pops, but rather it just... slipped my mind. I'm not  particularly skilled at recalling information (or writing, apparently), so it fell to the recesses of my mind. My poor, beleagured mind. Just kidding, folks. So, I figured I'd discuss the Pops I neglected in this post!

Since I last posted about my own HP Pop collection, I've gained a grand total of (dun dun DUN) three new ones. I know, so many. It's crazy. I've got a fair few on my list for my upcoming birthday (someone get them for me), so I am getting back into the habit (habit?) of buying these and amassing gazillions of shiny-eyed, big-headed witches, wizards and other magical creatures of Rowling's creation!

 I bought Sirius not long after I purchased Dobby and Yule Ball Hermione in Perth city, that one time I actually had money to spend and a means to spend it physically. I love Sirius - admittedly the character more than Oldman's portrayal. Am I the only one who had an issue with the way he was portrayed? He was meant to be in his mid/late thirties (no guy in their thirties looks that old), but he was aged up to around fifty for some reason. I get that they wanted him to look parent-y, but I just always pictured Ben Barnes (mouth watering thinking about Prince Caspian) in the role. I also have beef with the fact that Lily and James Potter were cast really similarly - they looked parent-y. They were, like, twenty when they died; basically teenagers. Just why? Why? Anyway, that was a massive tangent. So I love Sirius in a sexy way. If I could choose a husband from the HP world, it'd be Sirius. Yep. ILY, Sirius.

 I bought Neville next - I actually can't remember where I got him. Wait - I do; he was a bulk purchase I made with Arya Stark and Cersei Lannister at a small gaming and hobby shop a little ways from where I live. They had some sort of sale going on - I think it was a buy two, get one free thing - so I saw a sad little Neville in the back corner and told myself I was gonna get him. He's now happy, sitting with his Gryffindor classmates and cowering from the dreaded Professor Snape. I really love the addition of Trevor the toad perched in his hand. As a Pop, Neville looks really similar to Harry - it kinda struck me how Neville and Harry were virtually exchangeable; that Neville could just as easily been the Boy Who Lived.

Cedric Diggory was a really recent purchase. I couldn't believe I'd failed to get him for my collection, and I decided that I'd order him from Popcultcha.com just in time for my re-watching of Goblet of Fire. I bawled; it was great. He's so cute as a Pop! I particularly love the colour of his hair; I just think that burnt-mustard colour is mesmerising. I also love the disparity in colouration between the eyebrows and the hair, and it wasn't something I noticed about the character until I went back and looked at Robert Pattinson in the Goblet of Fire. Speaking of Robert Pattinson, the Twilight Funko Pops have come out recently. Thoughts, anyone?

I'm hoping for the Dementor for my birthday, as well as Triwizard Harry and Yule Ball Ron. I also want the SDCC Newt Scamander Funko Pop, seeing as Fantastic Beasts was my favourite of the three "textbooks" from the wizarding world. I'm so excited to see the movie!

Update - Harry Potter Funko Pop Wave 3 Additions

Now, I'm pretty sure everyone's already aware of the existence of these, especially if you keep up to date with Hot Topic's release info. But, seeing as I had previously posted about the third wave of Harry Potter Funko Pops, I figured it'd make sense to continue updating you guys that may not be in the know about things.

I mentioned last time that I wasn't sure if the Wave 3 promo pics were real or just really good edits - seeing as the net has had a sudden influx of these pics and a number or reputable news sites confirming these, I'm pretty sure these are all real. EDIT: these are all officially listed as November 2016 pre-order figures on Popcultcha.com in Australia, as well as on Hot Topic and Funko's own site. At the very least, the Hot Topic exclusives are real. Exclusives, I say? Yes, of course, Hot Topic has exclusives. While I admit I will be eschewing these in favour of the basic line of Wave 3 figures, I have to say that these are all pretty great exclusive releases. In the exclusive line-up, we have Triwizard Harry Potter, Christmas Sweater Harry and Ron, Death Eater Lucius Malfoy and Azkaban Bellatrix. Here they are:

I'm a little underwhelmed by yet another set of PS/CoS-based Harry and Ron, I'm really quite impressed with that fabulous Bellatrix Lestrange in her Azkaban outfit! The reddish tinge around her eyes makes her look delightfully insane. Still, I do confess I prefer the look of the basic Bellatrix better - I also already have the basic Harry and Ron, so I won't be getting these exclusives. I had a rule whereby I only get one of each character - I broke this when I got Yule Ball Hermione, but it's Harry Potter, so the rules can be broken. I do enjoy looking at these, though!

Harry Potter Funko Pop - Wave 3

Hello, everyone! So, I was snooping around on Facebook tonight as I'm prone to do, when I came across some 'glam shots' posted by the person who runs the Facebook page Funko Pop Checklist - they had a bunch of promotional pics for the next wave of Harry Potter's Funko Pop line! A quick disclaimer; I don't own these pictures and I credit them entirely to the page (and the group) I found them on, and to the producer of said images - Funko. Also, I cannot testify as to the validity of these images - they may well be very good Photoshop attempts. Either way, awesome!

We have in the line-up so far: Harry (the Department of Mysteries/Prophecy), Fred and George Weasley (Order of the Phoenix), Bellatrix Lestrange, Lucius Malfoy, Minerva McGonagall, Alastor Moody and Dolores Umbridge. There are a couple gaps in numbering, so I'm assuming this isn't the full line that will be released.

I'm really excited to see this line - quite a large number of fresh faces to be seen. While I liked the last wave, there were a few too many repeats. I confess that I'd hoped to finally see Ginny in this line (I'd really like her to be in the kid format; you know, the Pops based on the earlier characters that are slightly smaller than the rest? Yeah, I want her like that to match my other basic figures). I've been dying for McGonagall and Bellatrix, so I'm super excited to see this! As of today, I have no idea when these are going to be released. Sorry.

Funko POP! - Harry Potter Collection

Just some glamour shots of my Harry Potter POPs. I've always been a super huge fan of Harry Potter - like, die-hard - and so this is the collection of POPs I'm most likely to complete. In light of my recent re-ignition of interest in the series (just kidding; I always love Harry Potter), I decided to do a Funko-themed post about it. Enjoy!

Wave 1

I've collected almost all of Wave 1; I haven't got the Sword of Gryffindor or the Quidditch Harry, seeing as I thought it'd be a little pointless to have what is likely to be something like a dozen different Harrys by the end of the line. I might get the Quidditch ones, seeing as there's a matching Draco one from Wave 2 - it'd be super cute to have a little Quidditch duo. But there isn't enough to interest me with the Sword of Gryffindor version; it's wand Harry with a sword. Big deal, really. I love all these POPs; I actually have this weird obsession with the Snape one, even though he was never really a character I liked in the series.

If you can't tell, the POPs in this first wave are modelled after Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Lord Voldemort and a super-sized Rubeus Hagrid (in respective order). It is really hard to take Voldemort seriously after seeing how cute his POP is.

I had a Harry Potter-themed birthday party last year; my and a couple of my friends transformed my backyard into a Great Hall/Weasley house dinner table, with a long table and 'elegant' cutlery. I had fifteen people invited; fourteen came. In their invitations we sorted them into Houses; not only was this a great way to organise party activities, but it was also really great for keeping certain people apart (a lot of my friends hate each other, so seating them was interesting). Anyway, I got some really cool Harry Potter-themed stuff from a couple of my friends; I have a set of twins as besties, and they got me this really neat display case with bookmarks from each Hogwarts house (at some point I'll elaborate on this, so you'll understand what I mean by it); they also got me the Harry Potter POP. It was my first ever POP; I'd seen them in stores and wanted them, but was too anxious about what others would think of a teenage/adult girl buying toys for herself. Apparently it's an adult market, so... YOLO, I don't care what people think now. So, another one of my friends - and it was a surprise to me, considering we were Human Bio partners and not super-close - gifted me the Hermione POP and told me she knew it was my favourite character. Maybe it was an assumption thing, maybe not; either way, I treasure both these POPs as evidence that my friends really do know me inside out (an especial revelation considering my state of mind back then).

I kept them both in box for several months; they fit pretty easily on my shelf. When Christmas rolled around, my mum (and dad, but more mum) got me Dumbledore, Ron and Snape. Pretty soon I figured out that the boxes just weren't going to fit on my shelf; besides, they're toys, and I didn't plan on selling them, so I took them all out. It's freed up a hell of a lot of space in my room. Shortly after Christmas, I used some of the money my relatives gave me and bought Hagrid and Voldemort from EB Games in Midland. EB Games is the best place for POPs - mainly for the mainstream/kiddy/Marvel POPs - and the staff are seriously the best. They always stock heaps of HP POPs, so that's pretty great.

Wave 2

If you haven't already guessed, Hermione is my favourite character in the series. Why? I think it's obvious - she's awesome. But I think it's really because I am so much like her; bossy, opinionated, constantly studying and striving for excellence. So I got the Yule Ball version of Hermione yesterday, when I decided randomly to go into the city. They had heaps of POPs in EB Games at Perth, so if you live here definitely go check that out. I was able to pick out a literally flawless paint-job from the five available Hermiones there, so I'm super happy about that! I also managed to score a Dobby as well, as it is almost impossible to find him in stores. I found him in the corner of the store, behind some Harry Potter boardgames in another section of the shop. The cashier guy couldn't believe they had still been stocking the little guy, and I'm super pleased that I was sharp enough to spot it out the corner of my eye. Luna and Draco were gift voucher splurges at JB HI-FI online; I got the $50 voucher for being a high-achieving WACE student at my school, and they called everyone who scored over 90 back for recognition. I love Luna and Draco - heck, I love them all - so of course I had to add them to my collection. I got them together, and they look like albino twins side-by-side! I separate them because it's creepy. All the paint jobs for this wave are immaculate, I have yet to find a single flaw on any of them, which is really impressive. Any POP collector knows that quality varies not only between POP brands but also individual POPs.

Jon Snow Funko Pop! - Series 4 Castle Black Jon (muddy variant).

I was super pleased with this Pop! The detailing was excellent, and I really loved the muddy paint they sort of slapped over his armour. They gave him a weather-worn costume as well, which I find super realistic and cool. I got this Pop! because of the eyebrows; I love Jon, he's one of my favourites, but I wasn't really feeling his other Pop!s. They just didn't really look like him; with the broody intense eyebrows though, it's really easy to tell just who this figure is! There's a little bleeding on the hairline, and the sword is a little bendy, but I'm really quite fine with that, and the quality is overall pretty perfect.

I also got a Margaery Tyrell Pop! because I really admire her character. Sure, she's a scheming manipulative bitch, but she'd be boring if she was just nice. The way she plays Joffrey and Cersei like a pair of fiddles, though - fantastic. Really love this Pop!, the detailing is super fantastic, and I love how they included Natalie Dormer's 'piggy' nose. So cute!

Margaery Tyrell Funko Pop! - Series 6 Margaery.

I got these from Popcultcha.com; the shipping price was really decent, and these arrived within two days of the warehouse guys shipping them out. I was pretty happy with the quality; more so on the Margaery figure than the Jon Snow one, because there's a little bit of discolouration on the Jon Snow, but oh well. Perhaps that can be attributed to the muddiness of this variation. Overall, I'm really happy to be adding these two to my GoT Pop! collection.

A Guide to Buying: Funko Pop! Edition

I'm doing a little segment within my blog on where best to purchase items if you live in Australia like I do. I'd do a broader version, but I'm a little unsure as to where best to go internationally. You can forgive me, I'm sure - I've never actually been out of the country.So, here goes! Hope someone gets something out of this!

Buying in-store

This is probably the best way to go if you're looking for Pop!s without design or manufacturing flaws, and you want to check it out yourself before buying. You can examine the stock in-store and make an assessment through the packaging as to whether or not the product is suitably constructed for your liking. If you live in Australia, you just don't find these in run-of-the-mill department stores, so you generally have to go to gaming or specialised stores for your Funko Pop! needs. Here are my recommendations for stores.

EB Games

To check in store, probably the biggest contender is EB Games. If you live here, you've definitely heard of EB Games, and I think there's even a few in New Zealand as well!

EB Games Store, Perth, WA - Lakeside Joondalup.

The store's really great, and the staff as a general rule are super nice and friendly, and really helpful too! They're pretty invested in making sales, so you're guaranteed assistance if you need it. I've never really needed to ask, but I'm pretty sure you can go up to them at the counter and ask after a particular franchise or character Pop! you're looking for; if they don't have it I think store policy is either to ask to order it in for you or direct you to the nearest store that has what you're looking for. My city is practically crawling with these stores, they're seriously everywhere, and I live in the far west of Australia. I can only imagine how many of them are concentrated within a square kilometre of Sydney.

The issue with this store is that they really only sell kid-friendly stuff; their main demographic is young children and adolescents, so they don't typically have some of the more specified Pop!s in-store, especially in the smaller stores. For example, they don't have things like Outlander, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who (yes, this is kid-friendly, but I think people who are a little older appreciate this more). If you expected to find anything by way of those categories, you'd likely have to pop into the city and take a look at their stock. And, good luck sifting your way through the copious levels of Marvel and Adventure Time figures!

 Games World

A really great store I came across in Midland a couple months back was Games World. It is a chain store, but there aren't very many; they're mostly concentrated in Western Australia/Perth, with about three or four in Victoria. Their range isn't as broad as EBG, but they definitely cater to some of the more specialised collections of Pop!s. For example, I found heaps of Outlander and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Pop!s there last time - I was going through a massive Outlander kick at the time and Claire was pretty much my hero, so I had to get a little Pop! of her. I'll probably do a video review of it at some point. The staff are also pretty great - I should say is, because it's a one-man store. I was really trying to find a Jamie Fraser Pop! to go with my Claire, and I just couldn't find it anywhere (still haven't found one) - the guy there was super helpful, and even checked through his arriving stock for me to see if he could place one on reserve for me! It was pretty great, so I do really recommend this store.

JB HI-FI

I love JB HI-FI. My dad calls it the 'devil shop' because every time he drives past it on the way home from work, it tempts him to come in and buy something. He quite often does. It has a really great range of entertainment media, accessories and the like. None of my local stores actually stock Pop!s though, which is a little annoying - but I've had a little look interstate and I'm pretty sure they stock them in-store over there. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Buying online

A lot of people I know who love these figures always tell me how iffy they are about buying them online. Understandable; it's easier to make a decision about a product when you've seen it up close, or at least a more thorough view of it. Photo lighting is always flattering, and sometimes you just can't be sure until you've had a little look-see at the product itself. Many just take the risk - they click that 'buy now' button and hope for the best. And those people are quite often disappointed, because - unfortunately - Funko production is fairly uneven, and you're really likely to get a figure with some kind of visible flaw. What a lot of people don't seem to realise is that you can contact the web staff from whatever site you've purchased from to ensure they select a Pop! that has the lowest possible number of flaws as they can find in the warehouse. You just go down (or up) to the contact information - sometimes they'll have a specific order inquiry section there, or if not just go to general inquiry and place your request for this there. Make sure you put in your order number and name/account name! They are always really obliging, and obviously they expect to get these sorts of requests a fair bit, so don't be afraid to ask!

JB HI-FI

It may seem kinda weird, given the next site I'll be putting down, but I actually favour JB HI-FI the most. I've ordered about three Pop!s from them now, and not one of them has had any noticeable flaw in them. I put in the request for a flaw-free set of Pop!s and they definitely delivered.

 

My biggest issue with this company, though, is that it seems like they physically open the packaging and check the Pop! itself. I'm not personally bothered by this, but I know there is that obsession about keeping them in mint condition, and my Dany Targaryen Pop! came to me half out of the inner plastic packaging. When I removed it from the box I noticed some white chalky dust on the sides of her head, and it made it really obvious it was handled and placed back incorrectly. This was a pretty big fail, especially if I as a customer had been an OCD mint-condition collector. However, none of the other Pop!s came to me like this, and the dust was wiped away super easy. All three Pop!s were in brilliant condition (especially the GoT one, which are notable for their inconsistencies), so I was really happy with this. For mint-condition junkies, I don't recommend you use this site for Pop! quality checking as they do handle them out-of-box, but for everyone else, this is the sure way to go to find the best-quality Pop!

Popcultcha.com

Popcultcha.com was a really recent discovery of mine. It's mainly operated online, but I think there's a store over east somewhere. It has the self-proclaimed biggest range of collectible items in the country, and I think that's pretty true; they have an absolutely huge stock list, and purchasing from them is pretty fun. The Pop!s on the site are comprehensively categorised, and they don't have the entire range of every Pop! in existence, but that's to be expected, I think.

 

I recently ordered a couple Pop!s from them, and while they were absolutely amazing, a part of me niggled a little at the flaws they displayed - it isn't like they were incredibly noticeable, in fact I'm just being picky, but the quality just wasn't as good as the ones from JB HI-FI. Not at all complaining about the service though - they were shipped to my place within two days of me placing my order. Coming from a warehouse on the other side of the country from where I am, that's pretty impressive. And the packaging they came in was really sturdy; a thick cardboard box with green tape sealing all the cracks. Bloody hard to open, but at least you know it'd take a lot to tamper with it or have the weather get in.

EB Games

EB Games also has an online presence - the shipping price is pretty good and the Pop!s are priced reasonably well at $19 AUD. They have a pretty large range too, so I definitely recommend giving this a try. I can't give a statement as to the quality of the product shipped out, but I'm sure it could be guaranteed.

My new Funko Pop... Jaime Lannister!

Jaime Lannister Funko Pop! - Series 5 Golden Hand Jaime.

I seriously have an addiction to these things - but I couldn't help myself, he was just so damn cute. Got to confess, I really didn't like Jaime in Season 1 or 2; he only really became bearable after he lost his hand. Some big character growth from losing that hand, and the scenes with Brienne were really funny to watch!

So I got this Pop of Jaime for a couple reasons, the first being I like his character better in the series after he lost his hand. Also, because the original figure of Jaime (Kingsguard/Knight Jaime) looked really weird online, he had some strange reddish tint to his face and a greenish tint to his hair that clashed big time, so I was like "NO". It was pretty generic, too - you could probably assume he was in any medieval movie/series; there wasn't really anything tying him to Game of Thrones.

I got this Jaime in the store at my university. Most WA universities (I'm not sure about interstate) have this shop - the Co-op Shop, I believe. Anyway, it's great; it has everything from textbooks, reading books and clothes to food, stationery and gift items. It also has an entire wall of Pop Funko figures, and they like to sort them into categories at mine. Makes it super easy to figure out where to find what it is I want. There isn't a hell of a lot of them - any EB Games would have loads more in-store - but they're really great for GoT and Doctor Who, and Harry Potter, because you can't really find Pops from those franchises in stores here. You usually have to order online. Although, I did see a Cersei Lannister and Ramsay Bolton in my local EB Games the other day - but I'm guessing that's only because no one wanted them (the obvious reason - Cersei's a total cow and Ramsay's a creepy sick bastard, no pun intended). You really only find Avengers and Adventure Time in the major game shops, which sucks, and specialty stores usually overprice them WAY too much to bother.

So the Co-op Shop is super great for those main categories - they have an online shop too, which I only found out recently. I was really happy with the price I paid - Co-op discounts them, so what is usually around $20 here actually becomes $17. Three extra dollars is a lot when you're broke and starving! Also, because I paid a stupid amount of money to get a plastic card that tells me I'm a member of the shop, I got the price further reduced to $14! I was really stoked, and I got to buy myself a fancy pen because I forgot to bring my pens to my lecture today. I'm definitely going to buy more often from there - they don't have a lot of variation, but maybe I'll get to like some of the characters they stock (a rule for me - I don't complete collections, I buy characters I like, makes it a LOT less stressful for me).

I may do a review of something soon. Maybe Funko Pops in general; maybe I'll do a talk on Game of Thrones (though I don't really know what I have to contribute to a conversation that, as far as I know, is deeply political and very much heated for a fictional series based in an imaginary world with dragons). Tomorrow, apparently my Margaery and Jon Snow Pops are arriving, so I'll probably do a post then. Jon Snow and Dany are pretty much tied for favourite character at the moment, so... (Sansa too - I don't know why people hate her so much).

Pop Vinyls

I'm really really sorry about the long absence. God, how long has it been? I dunno.

Everything's been super hectic lately. I started university!!!!!! I again changed my mind and decided to do teaching. So, I'm studying a Bachelor of Education for Secondary Schooling at Edith Cowan University, majoring in English and minoring in Social Studies (like geography, politics, history and economics). I'm super excited about it, and I'm having so much fun at university - it's a lot more laid back than high school was, and I'm only there on Mondays and Tuesdays this semester. I have a whole day - 8:30am to 4:30pm - on Mondays!!! It kills, because I'm a teenager and my sleep patterns tend more towards staying up late and waking up late than the opposite. I'm usually about to fall asleep by the time I get into my Discovering Literature lecture.

I have friends too! Wow, the fact that it sounds as though it's surprising is rather sad. I mean, someone I knew from high school is going to the same uni as me, doing the same major and minor courses, and taking all the same classes as me this year! I was so excited, I thought I'd be alone. But I also gained three new friends, people from other schools (and other parts of the state). So I'm happy with that.

I've submitted all my assignments so far super early - I'm usually a procastinator, but I have a thing for excessive Word document formatting and uni requires HEAPS, it's unbelievable. I'm Monica with a formatting fetish instead of a cleaning one. And I've already done an in-class assessment and got High Distinction for it! I'm really happy with myself. And for the first time I feel completely independent of my family, which is another big thing for me - in high school parents are really involved, but uni is all individual and I have to deal with everything myself. It's great.

So, my depression got a little worse during the first few months of this year. I guess it was because of inaction - I legit had nothing to do, because the unemployment rates in my area are unbelievable right now. I've been applying for about a year now, but its all been in the city, because there's just nothing. Nothing. I almost got a job in a bookstore I LOVE, but my uni hours interfered. That's another spanner in the works. I don't know if I'm ever going to get a job - the sad thing is I'm serious. But I've posted about 12 different application letters to random businesses in the area and in the city, I'm so desperate, and there's an opening in a local electronics store for people like me, so I hope that comes through. It's right next to a stationery store, and across the road from the games shop, so I'm game.

Anyway, I'm watching Game of Thrones. I just decided, you know, I'm not going to ask permission because I'm an adult now and I have to start making my own decisions. If you knew me you'd know me doing something like watching an R-rated TV show without permission was formerly a big deal for me. But I guess I don't need permission or validation anymore, I'm doing pretty great. I'm up to season 4 almost. Just one more episode of season 3. And I can confidently say I both hate and love George R R Martin. I won't say anything in case you haven't seen it, but yeah.

With that in mind, I've recently cultivated an obsession with Pop Vinyls by the brand Funko. You've probably heard of them. I always thought they were so cute, but shied away from getting some because you know, they're toys, and I'm an adult and yeah. But I got a couple Harry Potter ones for my birthday last year (Harry and Hermione, my friends know me so well) and I basically started collecting. I'll probably post photos of them when I can be bothered.

But I've wanted a particular one for a long time - Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. I always loved her character, even watching her storyline on Youtube back when I wasn't actually allowed to see the series. I know a lot of people find her annoying - let's be real, she kinda is - but the entire series is about subverting tropes, and the whole noble, infallible ruler thing is totally negated by a few character defects amongst a sea of potential great. She's kick-ass and gorgeous and slighty crazy, and that works for me.

So I got a Pop Funko of Dany. I really don't like Khaleesi Dany or Wedding Dress Dany (the eyebrows are really awkward and apparently the paint job's shit), so I got the Mhysa Dany. She's beautiful, and so so cute!

Yes, I did a mini photoshoot. I took like, three pictures and this one was it. I don't have a desert-y backyard (well, I did once; there was a shit-ton of orange sand out the back which would've been good), so this had to do. But I think it worked nicely, really, and it's probably the only good backdrop-worthy spot in my yard.

So, hopefully I will be updating more often now. Between uni and job searching, I really don't have anything to do, so...
